If you were really interested in throwing, I bet the teacher would show you during one of your many studio hours. It is frustrating at first, but once you get the hang of it, you want to perfect it. It reminds me of one of my "new things"--I learned to knit this weekend! I received start up materials as a mailed Christmas gift, and it is seriously becoming addictive.

Luckily there will be no throwing in my class, that I know of, which is something I was really worried about getting the hang of! After having actually gone to a few classes, I'm not as worried about it--although my instructor's requirement of at least five hours per week spent in the studio (outside of class time) makes me a little nervous! You're right, though, the resulting stress relief has been pretty awesome so far, and nothing I've made has fallen apart.... yet.

Clay arts is awesome! I took it my freshman year, and I would find excuses to go over to the lab and throw a pot. Besides the obvious physical relationship to the art, the psychological connections can really be helpful for stress and relaxation. You seem pretty artsy (what with all your awesome DIY projects), so I think you will do just fine. =)
